This Week: Hit the Streets in Your Town to Stop Corporate Tax Dodging

By Margarida Jorge, Field Director, Americans for Tax Fairness

In 16 states this week, we’re urging our members of Congress to stop corporate tax dodging and invest in the U.S. as they prepare for the upcoming federal budget showdown this September.

Right now, Congress is in recess, so most Senators and Representatives are at home in their districts. When they return to Washington, D.C., they’ll have just 9 working days to figure out how to head off a new round of automatic budget cuts (the “sequester”) to investments like Head Start, education, and health care, and assistance for seniors and to avoid a government shutdown.

If you live in one of these states, join us at an event organized by Americans for Tax Fairness’ local partners. It’s the best way to let your members of Congress know that, instead of cutting the programs vital to most Americans, you want them to support a plan that calls on big corporations and the super rich to pay their fair share of taxes and support investments that benefit us all.

If you don’t live near an event, you can still have a say. Call 1-888-531-3993 to get connected with your Senator’s office. When you dial, you’ll hear some ideas of what to say to their office as you encourage them to stop corporate tax dodging and invest in education, health care, life-saving research and other services that people depend on.

We’ll see you out there!

All times listed here are local times. You can also download an Excel file of all of the scheduled events.
