WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, 56 organizations led by Tax March, Indivisible, and Americans for Tax Fairness have co-signed a letter demanding that a Democratic Congress obtain and publicly release President Donald Trump’s tax returns following the bombshell report from The New York Times into Trump’s dubious tax schemes.

The letter urges Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer, House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi, and Ranking Members of the Senate and House tax-writing committees, Ron Wyden and Richard Neal, to make obtaining and publicly releasing President Trump’s tax returns, and those of his more than 500 business entities, a top priority on the first day of the 116th Congress.

“Donald Trump is hiding something, and the American people deserve to know what his financial entanglements are,” said Maura Quint, Executive Director of Tax March. “The New York Times report proves that there are still significant questions about Donald Trump’s compromising financial interests. A Democratic Congress must seek out and release Trump’s tax returns in order to provide the American people the answers they deserve.”

“There is nothing normal about the Donald Trump presidency—and Democrats should respond accordingly,” said Chad Bolt, Associate Policy Director at Indivisible. “They should use their authority to obtain his tax returns on Day One, if they take back the House or Senate, so the American people can finally learn more about his tax avoidance, his conflicts of interest, and his own personal benefit from the tax scam he pushed through Congress.”

“President Trump is hiding something, and the public deserves to know what it is,” said Frank Clemente, Executive Director of Americans for Tax Fairness. “Transparency of our institutions and full disclosure by those who seek to lead them are essential tenets of an informed democracy. Questions about foreign entanglements, conflicts of interest, self-dealing and tax dodging are hanging over this president, and they can be answered by the release of his tax returns.”
